What is Reach?

REACH is a European Union regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals. It came into force on June 1, 2007 and covers a number of EU Regulations and Directives and brings them under a single system.

 

Reach Purpose

REACH regulations have been adopted by all Member States of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) and are designed to control the manufacture, import and marketing of chemical products.

 

Under REACH:

- Ensuring a high level of protection of the environment and human health from the use of chemicals,

- Holding people who place chemicals on the market (manufacturers and importers/exporters) responsible for understanding and managing the risks associated with their intended use,

- Ensuring the free movement of substances on the EU market,

- Increasing competitiveness and innovation in the EU chemical industry,

It aims to encourage alternative methods for assessing the harmful properties of substances.
